Meet Quentin

Quentin earned his Associate’s degree at Hawkeye Community College, and then earned his Bachelor’s degree from Minnesota State. Today, he holds a Master’s degree in Post-Secondary Education from the University of Northern Iowa, and is a Doctoral Candidate at Iowa State.

Back home in Waterloo, Quentin recognized that his community – his hometown –needed some love. It needed someone to make those 19,000 trips. Houses were crumbling and environmental concerns were hurting the community.

Mayor Hart serves with the US Conference of Mayors, National League of Cities, Accelerator for America Advisory Board, Iowa Department of Aging, Iowa Healthy Hometown Initiative, and President of the Iowa League of Cities.

As he seeks his 4th term as Mayor, Quentin is committed to increased collaboration,  to partnering with workers and citizens to grow Waterloo’s economy, and to building bridges that will unite our community. Because that’s what service is about. It’s about building bridges, uniting communities, and moving forward.

Quentin Hart was born and raised on the Northside of Waterloo. His parents moved here from Mississippi. His father worked for John Deere for 33 years and his mother worked at Allen Hospital for more than 30.

His mom crossed the street more than 19,000 times going to work and coming home again. Because that’s what we do for our families. That’s what we do for our communities.

So he sought public office. Quentin was elected to the Waterloo City Council in 2008 and served 2 terms until 2015, when he was first elected Mayor.

Under Mayor Hart’s leadership, Waterloo has made real progress. Waterloo is growing and, thanks to Mayor Hart’s leadership, coming out of the global pandemic ready to move forward.
