PROVEN LEADERSHIP – REAL RESULTS
Mayor Quentin Hart has spent his life serving the community he grew up in, and today he’s leading Waterloo into a stronger future. As the city’s first African American mayor, Hart has guided Waterloo through a period of transformation—driving record-setting economic growth, strengthening neighborhoods, and delivering on a shared 2030 Vision Plan built with input from residents.
Under his leadership, Waterloo has:
Surpassed $100 million in building permits for 11 consecutive years, with major new investments like the $260M International Paper plant, $37M apartment development at North Crossing, and revitalization across the University Corridor.
Launched Waterloo Fiber, a $120M locally owned broadband network bringing affordable high-speed internet to every home and business.
Delivered infrastructure improvements including the $30M University Avenue reconstruction, $22M bridge replacements, and $5.2M award-winning Broadway Street project.
Expanded recreation with the Veterans Way Art & History Corridor, new Byrnes Aquatic Center, Sullivan Family Memorial Park, and a reimagined Gates Park.
Earned national recognition as Technology Community of the Year and Iowa’s only American WWII Heritage City designation.
Mayor Hart’s vision is clear—a Community of Opportunity for All—where diversity fuels progress, housing is accessible for every income level, and strategic investments prepare Waterloo for the next generation. With deep roots, national connections, and a proven record of delivering results, Mayor Hart is ready to keep building bridges and moving Waterloo forward.
